Willie Safford Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 5, 2025.
Kinston - Willie Faye Safford, 82, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at the PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Rocky Mount in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was born on November 04, 1943, in Crenshaw County, Alabama.

A woman of deep faith and dedication, Willie Faye lived a life rooted in service to others. She earned her Massachusetts High School Equivalency Diploma later in life, a testament to her perseverance and commitment to personal growth. For over sixteen years, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the original St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. After relocating to North Carolina with the support of her preceding brother Douglas P. Safford, surviving sister Jennett Collins (Charles) continued her career as a Home Health Aide in Lenoir County and later as a Developmental Technician (DT) II at the Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston, NC providing compassionate care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Willie Faye was a devoted member of the Church of Christ in Kinston, NC. Her faith was central to her life, and she found strength and comfort in scripture-especially Genesis 3:19 and Revelation 21:4.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Ernest J. Safford (Beatrice) of Olympia, WA; Renee Safford-White of San Francisco, CA; and Christopher Safford of Goldsboro, NC. She was predeceased by her son Craig Steven Safford (1959-2015), whose beautiful wife Brenda K. (Rhone) Safford of Spartanburg, SC and sons Kenny Safford of Petersburg, FL, and Christopher Safford (Shanazz) of Westminster, MA also mourn her loss.

Willie Faye is also survived by loving siblings Jennett Collins (Charles) of Goldsboro, NC; Pauline Gassaway of DeSoto, TX; John M. Safford (Hilda) of Kinston, NC; and Marvin E. Safford of Burlington, VT.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Church of Christ - Kinston, 1901 Sunset Avenue.
