Wilma Quimby Vanlandingham
May 11, 1915 - December 8, 2013
Wilma Quimby Vanlandingham gently, with a clear mind, went to be with the Lord at age 98.
Born in Litchfield, Michigan to Walter H. and Viva B (Craddock) Quimby.
Surviving her of a family of six is sister, Beatrice L. Vanlandingham of Fruita. Preceding her in death were brothers, Paul C., Herbert, Robert (MD) and Wayne.
Wilma met her husband, Troy, while both were going to Mesa College. They fell in love and married May 18, 1941.
After graduating they taught school at Loma, CO. They also taught at Glade Park grade school and lived in the teacherage there.
After Pearl Harbor, Troy enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Camp Grant, Illinois. Wilma followed Troy there, later returning to her parents in Fruita.
IN January 1944, she gave birth to twins, Jerry Allen and JoAn Allene. In 1948 their youngest daughter, Connie Lou Vanlandingham was born. She grew up and married Commander Douglas I. Boyles.
Troy and Wilma and family moved to San Bernardino for a promised teaching position. Wilma continued her education and graduated from University of Northern Colorado in 1970. She loved education and encouraged their children to complete their degrees.
Wilma was loved by family and friends. Her appearance was always attractive and was known for being kind and gracious.
She is also survived by her children, Jerry (Nancy), JoAn Taylor and Connie Lou (Douglas); four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be on Jan 11, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Mira Mesa, San Diego. A service in Fruita is planned for later in the spring.
Cards may be sent to JoAn Taylor, 10443 Baywood Ave., San Diego, CA 92126.
