Winnie Modderman

MODDERMAN, Winnie May 2, 1924 June 11, 2011 Bouwina Jantina Modderman, 87, of Regina went to her eternal home to her Father in Heaven. Winnie was predeceased by her husband Joe. Winnie is survived by her sister Anne (Roger); brother John (Irene) and Gus (Betty); her children Don (Judi), Peter (Helen), Elaine (Harold) Buyze and Yolanda (Jeff) Mang; 13 grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren. Winnie was born in Warffum, The Netherlands, to parents Siepko and Reina Teerling. Growing up the eldest of five one sister and three brothers, Winnie was the second caregiver to her siblings. Before Winnie was married, she worked in family service, where she sewed and helped with domestic care. Winnie met Joe shortly after World War II. They were married in 1954 and immigrated to Canada in 1955. They lived in Toronto for 2 1/2 years and the next 15 years they lived in Vauxhall, AB where they raised their family. Winnie raised their four children and was content to be at home, knitting, sewing, cooking, gardening and baking. In 1974 the family moved to Regina. She loved playing the organ both in church and at home. Winnie played the organ at Extendicare for many years where both she and Joe led services for the residents. Winnie enjoyed excellent health until several years ago when she was diagnosed with cancer. The last few years she was a caregiver to Joe who was struggling with ALS. In the last year her health declined but that did not stop her from enjoying life and her concern was always for her family and not focused on herself. She continued knitting for the family until the last days of her life. Her strong faith in God was evident in her life and will always be remembered. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Thank you to Hillsdale Care Home and the Palliative Care Team for their love and care. A VISITATION will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. A CELEBRATION OF WINNIE'S LIFE will be held at Sonlight Christian Reformed Church, 139 Cannon Street, Regina, SK on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles Kooger officiating.
