Bilee, I am so sorry for your loss. I am a lawyer in Seattle and have worked with Wendell for a mutual client since 1993. I never got to meet Wendell face to face, but I confess spending several hours over the last two decades laughing with him by phone. I have heard many sweet and loving stories about you and your family. You may run across a plaid hat with ear flaps - the result of a practical joke by a colleague of mine following a long silly discussion with Wendell. You and your family are in my thoughts. I wish you strength during this difficult time. Wendy Goffe, Stoel Rives LLP, Seattle, WA (206) 386-7565, [email protected]

Bilee, I just learned that Wendell died and funeral was today. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Unfortunately I know exactly where you are walking. My husband died less than 6 weeks ago after only finding out 4 weeks prior that he had cancer. Focus on all of your wonderful memories stay connected to the Lord and know you can only do one day at a time.

Bilee, my heart goes out to you in the loss of your beloved husband, Wendell. I have not seen you in a good while but will always remember how special you are in my life. My husband, Bill, and I both had a great respect for Wendell - he was always so pleasant to be around and to work with. I know you will miss him greatly, but he will always be with you in all your great memories together. The funeral service and music was beautiful.

Bilee, I don't know you, but, I was a school mate of Wendell's in Opelika. Wendell was just about the best, all round person I knew...great morals, great humor, great confidence, quiet and reserved in some ways, yet, outstanding in character. I was deeply saddened when I heard. My thoughts and prayer's are with you, your family and Cissy during these times. Just a bit of nostalgia, if you will....one of my best memories of him is, on one Sunday afternoon, in 1967, when he turned me on to the Door's album, Strange Days. After reading the obit, I was telling a friend (who didn't know Wendell) about him...I said, I know it sounds cliche and simple to say "he was just a great guy".....unless you knew him.....because that's exactly how I remembered him....just a great guy!

I was shocked to hear about your loss. I still remember eating Sunday dinner in Opelika with you and Wendell when I was a student at Auburn. I will be thinking about you and praying for you. Patricia Miller

Bilee: May God grant you peace in this most trying time. Wendell was a shining light in all that he did. I know how much Bob trusted him in every way. And Wendell was a great help and support to me when I needed it. All who knew him will keep his warmth and smile in their hearts. Blessings and Peace to you and yours. Ann Thorington

To those who loved Wendell Cauley,
As my lawyer I only knew him in a professional capacity. He was so warm, so quick to smile and laugh while being very clear precise and thoughtful as he advised and informed me of what I could do. I will miss him as a person and also as my lawyer. with gratitude to Wendell Dorothy Hinkle-Uhlig

Our hearts are heavy here at Capitol Heights UMC as we prepare to say our final goodbye to our beloved church family member Wendell. His generous spirit, kind heart, and bass singing voice have become part of each of us and we will miss him more than we can say. We pray that God's peace and comfort will surround Bilee, Cissy, and all of his family. May God's grace guide you sweetly home Wendell to your place in that great cloud of witnesses.

Woody and I became fast friends in college due to both of us having Alabama roots, his way deeper than my own. From then on whenever we got together we shared many stories of Alabama culture, politics, food, and its powerful musical heritage. I must say we probably have spent more time laughing together than talking. I cherish his friendship and celebrate his life.Woody may you rest in peace the same way you lived in peace. Godspeed my friend.
