April 30, 1970 - March 28, 2012
With much sadness the family of Wylie Craig advise all who knew the "friendly giant" of his passing this week in Mexico. He was attending the wedding of close friends Adam and Cari Mussel, friends since Cari and Wylie were born one day apart in Richmond, BC. Wylie is survived by his mom Harolyn (Wayne) Long, brother Denton, his precious children, the loves of his life, Alexandra and Liam, and his grandma Helen Barefoot (94 years old). He will also be truly missed by his mass of amazing friends and brothers at USW Local 7226 Tenaris Steel. At Wylie's request there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to CJAY 92 Kids Fund. A celebration of his life is to be announced.

Happy St Patty s Day Wylie, one of your favorite days, especially the green beer. I can t believe it has been 9 years on the 27th since I was told the unbelievable news by Denton at 2:30 am. It s been a hard journey, as one goes thru shock, anger, disbelieve, acceptance and letting go. But I still watch the front door hoping you will walk in one day.
I look at your picture daily and can now smile and give thanks for the honor of being your Mom. I was so proud of you and what you achie
ved in this life and how many lives you touched. You were taught respect of others and giving to those less fortunate and you definately achieved that.
I know you are looking down on your children Alex and Liam with much pride as they too have your huge heart and sense of humor, also being raised to respect others and work for what they want in life. I don t have to tell you how much I love them and our times together. They and Denton are my reason for going on as well as Wayne. Letting go is not easy for a Mother, not suppose to happen, but it does sometimes. We have to accept and go on until it is our time to join you.

Wylie, you were At Dr. Egbert, in that amazing grade 6 class of my first year of teaching. I often thought of you, your mom, dad, and brother, and how special and protective you were of your classmates and the underdogs. Now, 35 years later, as I'm pushing 60, I reflect on you, My Wylie, with the fondest of memories. For Alexandra and Liam, please know that my life has been so much better for knowing your daddy, and I feel such overwhelming gratitude for having had that opportunity. I have no words to describe how wonderful Wylie was and how deeply saddened I was today to learn of his passing. I met Wylie at a labour union school in Jasper in January 2010 and I instantly knew he was someone I would call friend. I loved his wittiness and he always made me laugh. He glowed with life and love for others. I will miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with Wylie's family.

Wylie, the world is not the same without you. What a wonderful, caring man you were! Our times at Milestones, South centre were precious times! I am so thankful to have had a place in your life. The week we all spent with Wylie in Mexico was wonderful. He made everyone he came in contact with feel like an old friend. The most vivid final memory of him that I have is when I leaned over to him at the dinner table, bumped him on the shoulder and asked "are you having a good time big man?". He responded "Ya, I'm pretty happy". Then we danced around like fools for everyone's amusement. That is the Wylie I got to know and the one I would like to have known more. Deepest condolences to the family and friends of this man who was truly larger than life in more than just his physical size. He had a giant personality and my wife and I will miss him.

Wylie made a point of remembering people and including them in his life.I was one of those very fortunate people.
I watched as Wylie took care of many, even when he faced challenges. I watched as he acted as the glue that kept many friendships together. I watched him handle challenges with the grace of a gentleman.
His children were watching too. Because of him, they will no doubt be just like him. What a gift to the world.

Wylie was one of the first people to welcome us into Bonavista. We only had a couple of conversations but I knew that he cared about his family, was a hard worker and would help a neighbour without a second thought.
