Feb. 13, 1921 — Sept. 29, 2005Former Duncan resident Wynema Strange, 84, of Seattle, Wash., died Sept. 29, 2005, in Seattle.Memorial service was Monday, April 14, 2008, in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan, where family and friends celebrated our beloved Meme’s life and memory.Wynema was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Cotton County. For most of her adult life, Wynema was a professional singer and guitarist, beginning at age 17. During World War II, she traveled all over the United States as a USO entertainer. She later became a model for John Robert Powers, leading into another career as a makeup and television artist. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at Duncan Regional Hospital. Her proudest achievement was her work as a genealogist, resulting in two volumes of “Hooper Genealogy, a Southern Branch,” that she researched and co-compiled with her mother, Flora. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.While careers came and went, the foundation of her life was her family. She is survived by her sister, Laura Ruth Wakefield of Seattle; her daughter in spirit (niece), Kim Kommers, also of Seattle; nephews: Howard and Tony Wakefield of Camarillo, Calif.; and cousins: Sharleen and Glynis Johns and Amanda Collier, all of Duncan.She was preceded in death by her parents, Flora Hooper Collier and Glenn Strange; and her beloved sister, Juanita Miller.
