Edith and Micky I knew from 40 years ago when I was a new principal at Robert Down School. They walked by the school, daily, and we became friends for MANY MANY YEARS. Micky took care of all my shoes, and Edith and I worked together for the bell ringing at Christmas...as well as the Salmon dinners once a year. Our community had a couple of very special and irreplaceable folk! They will be missed and always remembered and loved!

Dear Mary, John and Nancy,
You have lost a wonderful mother; we who knew Edith have lost a dear friend. She was so genuine and compassionate in her giving to others. Hopefully you can find some solace in knowing that your mother was held in the highest esteem for her many selfless, civic deeds in our community.
Sincerely,

Dear Friends:
We want to extend our deepest sympathies regarding the loss of your dear mother, grandmother and best friend. There could not have been a better role model for you than Edith: fidelity to her husband, loyalty and devotion to her family, leader in the community on behalf of the underserved, and a woman with an incomparable moral compass.
Edith was an example of why her generation has been called one of the greatest in American history. That generation was strengthened in their humanity through the tests of the Great Depression, and they were heroic in their battle against evil during World War II and the Cold War. That generation will always be remembered alongside America's Founders, those brave men and women who fought against slavery and for the Union, and the men and women of Progressivism who laid the foundation for the achievements of the twentieth century.
We know that there are no words that can erase the pain of your sorrow. May you take comfort from your faith, from the love of family and dear friends, and from the knowledge that Edith's memory will live forever among all those who knew her or were touched by her good works.
