Young Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 22, 2024.
Young Anderson, 65, was a caring wife, mother, sister, and friend. She left this world on September 9, 2023 near Torla, Spain.

She was born to NanBu Ahn and SooHan Chae on March 28, 1958 in Daegu, South Korea, as one of seven children. Her siblings Youngju, Wonbyung, Anhee, Doobyung, Hongsun, and Jungyoon shared many memorable moments together and built a bond that would remain unbreakable throughout their lives.

Young always carried a passion for knowledge and adventure. After graduating from Yeungnam University, she displayed immense bravery, strength, and independence by venturing to the United States to obtain her Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry at Purdue University. It was at Purdue that she met her husband, Jon Anderson, and together, they had 3 children: Robyn, Col, and Milo.

As a mother, Young was exceptional. She lovingly shared her Korean heritage with her children, enriching their lives with culture, language, and delicious food. She was a beacon of love and wisdom, and her unwavering commitment to her family and relentless pursuit of their happiness were evident in every aspect of their lives.

Young's research studies focused on identifying cancer chemo-preventive agents. She spent several years at the American Health Foundation and then worked for 3 Pharmaceutical companies in Animal Health. She later joined Actives International as head of R&D.

Young's free moments were spent with nature. She truly thrived in the outdoors, exploring stunning hiking trails with friends every weekend. She became an incredibly skilled hiker and channeled her passion and enthusiasm into remarkable adventures, where she backpacked across the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia, the Alps, and more. During her travels, Young took delight in immersing herself in diverse cultures, learning about new places, and connecting with communities around the world. At home, she enjoyed tending to the garden and growing her collection of house plants, bringing life and vitality into her home, much like Young herself, who radiated warmth and light to those around her.

Young Anderson touched the hearts of everyone she met with her kindness, warmth, and genuine curiosity about the world. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of life.

In honor of Young's vibrant spirit and her love for nature, any donations can be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in her memory.
