Our family spent many happy hours as children on Otter Lake playing with the Fortiers and enjoying the warmth and graciousness of Dr. Fortier. When I was a university student he was inspirational and encouraging in my interest in the Earth Sciences which become a lifelong pursuit. My condolences and prayers to the Fortier family on the passing of an accomplished and highly regarded man.

My sincere sympathies to the family. Although I only had tbe chance to meet Dr Fortier late in his life and I did not get to know him much, I feel that many of us benefit from his legacy that is still very present in the GSC.
Sincères condoléances

To a large extent I owe my career to Dr. Y. O. Fortier who convinced me to join the Federal department in a talk at l'École Polytechnique in 1958. I am forever grateful.

The Fortiers were dear friends and neighbours thoughout the summers at Otter Lake - we shared so much happiness. And what I remember and love most about Yves was how fun he was - always enthusiastic, curious, engaging, charming - such good company. Admirable, accomplished no doubt, but more important to a kid, warm and fun. He'll leave a big absence.

With my sympathy to Trudy and the family. Yves was one of the Survey gentlemen and highly respected throughout the GSC. He had a long and productive life and was very much a part of mine.

Dr. Fortier was Head of the GSC when I joined as a student in 1965. His leadership qualities ensured that the organization continued to build its reputation as the finest geological survey in the world. So many of us owe him a debt of gratitude for enabling us to pursue our careers. His legacy will continue, and he will be missed.

I was a student assistant on Operation Franklin in 1955 and I well remember Dr. Fortier's fine leadership in organizing and executing a very difficult and complicated large survey under trying conditions. He was a very good man and contributed a great deal.

Sincere condolences to the Fortiers on the loss of your father. Many memories living across the street for you. The cottage, and Buffer his beloved dog. My best memory is how he and your mom used to put up with us girls dressing up and playing pranks. They both had such a good sense of humour. Big hugs.

Dr. Fortier was an amazing man! As a geology summer student, I remember him walking down the hall with a cast on his leg, vibrant, cheerful and friendly as ever.

My sincere condolences to your family.

Dr Fortier, you were like a second father to many of us from St Joes. Thank you. My greatest memory will always be watching man's first walk on the moon up at the cottage. You will truly be missed.
