It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zannie Proskow who passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital, on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward, on May 18, 1994. She is survived by her son Leonard (Iris), her daughter Adeline (Sam) and her sons Raymond and Marcel (Janet); grandchildren Sherri, Dennis, Deidre, Jackson and Ethan and step-grandchildren Tina and Tom. She had 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great- great-grandchildren. She was fortunate to have been visited by all of her children and many of her grandchildren, relatives and close friends in her final days. Zannie lived a full and happy life, surrounding herself with good family ties and many close friendships over the years. She was an outgoing woman who never took too long to make friends in any setting. Among the many things she will be remembered for was being a great cook. Her perogies and cabbage rolls were legendary and if you found yourself lucky enough to be presented with one of her poppy seed cakes for your birthday, you felt very special. She will also be remembered for her love of the color purple. She had more shades of purple in her wardrobe than any of us knew existed. She was born in Slawa, Alberta, moved to Edmonton as a young woman and then to Calgary where she lived the last sixteen years of her life. She was the last surviving member of her family that included eight children. She leaves behind many close friendships and relations in both cities. Her life will be celebrated in Calgary with a Prayer Service on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at McInnis and Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North). This will be followed with a full funeral service in Edmonton on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Funeral Home (9709-111 Avenue).
