Zareh Mozian Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 12, 2023.
With deep sorrow, the family of Zareh Mozian, residing in Venice, Florida (formerly Bowie, MD), announces his passing on July 2, 2023, at the age of 89. Zareh, who was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Marie (Cabezal) Mozian, leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his daughter, Demi; son-in-law, Mike; grandchildren, Kevin and Hunter, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Roger "King" Mozian and Jack Mozian.

Born in 1934 in New York City, Zareh spent his formative years in the vibrant neighborhood of Washington Heights. His journey led him to serve in the Army, where he proudly fulfilled his duty as a Military Police Officer while stationed in the Republic of Korea (South Korea). Zareh talked fondly of his time in the military, riding the trains as a guardian of vital mail, munitions, and other essential military resources.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Zareh returned home and pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the City University of New York. Fate played its hand when he met and fell in love with the delightful Rose Marie Cabezal. Together, they embarked on a new chapter and settled in Suitland, Maryland, where Zareh began work as an Oceanographer with the Department of the Navy. He spent countless months at sea, exploring over thirty countries and immersing himself in the beauty and vastness of the ocean. His experiences became the stuff of legends as he delighted us all with tales of his maritime adventures.

In 1966, Zareh and Rose welcomed their daughter Demetria (Demi) into the world, and the family planted their roots in the Pointer Ridge neighborhood of South Bowie, Maryland. They resided there for over fifty years, creating a warm and welcoming home where they entertained family and friends with great food, open hearts, music, and laughter. He found great joy in coaching Demi's softball team through the Bowie Boys and Girls Club. When not coaching, he generously volunteered his time as an umpire.

Wanting a more settled family life led Zareh to a position as a Geologist with the Bureau of Land Management within the Department of Interior. He later achieved a Master of Science in Technology of Management from The American University. After over three decades of federal service, he eventually bid farewell, eagerly embracing a new chapter of artistic pursuits and unbridled fun.

He delved into the realm of acting and was a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild. He participated as an extra in filming many movies, such as Contact, National Treasure, and Runaway Bride, as well as TV shows, commercials, and print ads. He also shared his talent in several performances with the Bowie Community Theater. And if there was a piano around, you could bet your last dollar that Zareh would be there, tickling the ivory with the tunes he knew so well.

Traveling, dancing, and fishing were among Zareh's favorite pastimes, though not necessarily in that order! With an infectious spirit, he was often the first to hit the dance floor. He eagerly participated in many fishing tournaments in the sparkling waters of the Chesapeake Bay.

Zareh will be remembered as a man of infectious charm, kindness, and energy. A devoted husband, loving father, dear friend, and treasured member of the Bowie Community, his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. We find solace in the countless memories he bestowed upon us, the lessons he taught us, and the love he generously shared.

In honoring his memory, may we carry forward Zareh's zest for life, his warm spirit, and his unwavering love for family and friends. Rest peacefully, dear Zareh, as you embark on your eternal journey, forever held in our hearts.
