Zindi Evans Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 2, 2025.
Zindi Young Evans, age 68, of Victoria, Texas was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, with her family by her side. Celebration of life services will be held Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Victoria. Reception will follow the service. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at First United Methodist Victoria.

Zindi was born on September 9,1956 in Abilene, Texas, the daughter of Crandall Young and Marjie (Darden) Zawadzki. She spent most of her childhood in Dalhart, Texas and Richardson, Texas. Zindi graduated from Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca, Texas in 1975. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Education in 1983.

She was united in marriage to Hester "Bill" Evans Jr. in 2001. They would celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this coming March.

Zindi resided in Victoria for nearly 50 years. She raised her three children (Taysha, Taylor and Tanner) and made many lifelong friendships there. She had a close-knit group of friends who call themselves the "Bunco Babes" and they provided decades of love, laughter, and encouragement.

In addition to being a wife, mother, and friend, Zindi was a devoted teacher for over 30 years. She taught Kindergarten through 7th grade but always said Kindergarten was her favorite. Her passion for teaching remained as she continued to work part-time in schools and tutored even after retiring. She had a love of literacy and education. Zindi was an avid reader and passed down her love of books to her children and grandchildren. Volunteering was important to Zindi, and she also served as a child advocate for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for many years.

Zindi loved traveling, especially to Ruidoso, New Mexico where she would stay for extended periods of time in the family cabin. These memories are treasured by her family as they enjoyed exploring the town, going to horse races, and reading outdoors with mountain views off the cabin's deck.

Granzi, as she was affectionately called by all of her grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with her family, attending all of her grandchildren's events and celebrations, holding holiday gatherings, and being everyone's biggest cheerleader. Granzi loved having everyone together!

She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Evans, daughter Taysha (Brady) Hill, sons Taylor (Allison) McKibbon and Tanner (Caressa) McKibbon, step-sons Mark (John Crnkovic) Evans, Kent (Dora) Evans; grandchildren, Claire Goforth-Hill and Leo Hill, Mary Grace McKibbon, Christian Hinojosa-McKibbon and Merrit McKibbon, Acelyn Evans and Elliana Evans. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Coleman (Karin) Young and nieces Jackie Young and Jessica Young. Zindi was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Lyla McKibbon.

Zindi had a huge heart! She gave generously and loved unconditionally. She rescued several pugs through Pug Hearts of Houston. She enjoyed her pug's companionship and could not say no to adding more to the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made. A general memorial has been established. The family plans to make donations to Pug Hearts of Houston, Golden Crescent CASA Victoria, and First United Methodist Church of Victoria. If you feel led to donate directly in Zindi's name, please feel free to do so.
