Ziqi Zhang

Ziqi Zhang, 19, of Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012. Ziqi was born on January 11, 1993, in Xuzhou, China to her loving parents, Ruicheng and Yongli Zhang of Xuzhou, Jiangsu, China. Surviving with her parents is her sister, Lu Zhang of Xuzhou, Jiangsu, China. Ziqi Zhang was a Saint Mary's sophomore enrolled in a dual degree program, working toward degrees in Mathematics at Saint Mary's College, and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. Ziqi was a gifted artist with serious training in piano, dance and various arts since the age of three. She attended Qing Nian Lu Elementary School, Shu Ren Middle School and Nanjing Jinling High School, China. Ziqi was an extremely motivated student and accomplished exceptionally in science subjects. While in high school, she competed as a team member in the 2010 VEX Robotics Competition World Championship, and came out 5th out of 400 competitors around the world. As a recipient of the 2012 NDnano Undergraduate Research Fellowship, Ziqi worked with Professor Alan Seabaugh of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Notre Dame on the design, fabrication, and characterization of nanoscale devices. Ziqi also had an incredible passion for liberal arts and pursued academic excellence in philosophy. But Ziqi will be most remembered for her loving, kind, and cheerful personality and her unwavering courage to explore the world. She cared deeply about her family and her home country, and loved the culture and lifestyle of the America, her land of promise. Her dream was to serve the people as an engineer and devote her life to the advancement of technology for the good of all mankind. Visitation for Ziqi will be held from 12-2 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana.
