Catherine Springer

1951 - 2017

FRANKLIN TWP. - Catherine Springer of Franklin Township, formerly of Grosse Ile, passed away at home on July 26, 2017.
Catherine was born on Dec. 9, 1951. Catherine spent her whole life pursuing her love of creating. Her oil paintings, on canvas, wood and paper were highly acclaimed. She was selected to provide a horse painting that was hung in the study of the governor's mansion in the state of Kentucky. Catherine, through her company, Off The Wall Designs, produced countless detailed clothespin dolls, hobby horses, bird feeders, backlit metal murals and thousands of painted Springa-Ma-Jig metal art pieces. Her customer base included Jacobson's, Greenfield Village, select gift shops and art galleries throughout the country. Catherine approached her work more as an engineer than as an artist, whether it was cooking, gardening or fabricating. Everything was always about precision and detail. Her last metal mural project was a 40-foot long backlit industrial scene that was installed above the sales counter at Allstate Industrial, a company that Catherine and her husband Mike operated in Ecorse, Mich. Catherine recently completed the horse barn project she had always dreamed of. Morton helped bring to life Catherine's design. Her building design was submitted to the National Frame Building Association and was awarded 2015 Building of the Year.
Catherine was joyful and gracious. She will be sorely missed. Catherine was always mindful of her favorite Scripture: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24)
