Harold Prettyman Obituary

Harold Lee Prettyman, age 92, died peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at the Suncoast Hospice Center in Palm Harbor, Fla.

He was born on Aug. 13, 1923, in Franklin County, Ohio. His parents were Harold N. and Gladys M. Prettyman. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1941 and subsequently joined the Army where he served in Italy during World War II. In 1952, he began working as a cost accountant for Tecumseh Products in Marion, Ohio. In 1953, he married Ruth E. Lyon of Marion, Ohio, and in 1954 he was transferred to Tecumseh, Mich., where he worked for 32 years until he retired. Once retired, he and his wife Ruth moved to Oldsmar, Fla., where they have spent the winters for 28 years.

Lee was a member of the Masons, Tecumseh Lodge No. 69, and he belonged to the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh, Mich., where he served as treasurer for many years. Later in his life, he was also a member of the East Lake United Methodist Church. In addition, he volunteered for many years with Tampa Bay Harvest and with the AARP tax preparation program.

He was an avid tennis player, playing with several different groups in Adrian and Tecumseh and later with the East Lake Woodlands Racket Club where they lived in Florida. He and his wife loved to travel and sail, making many trips across the country and throughout Europe. For many years, they summered on Lake Erie where they had a summer home.

Lee is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth, and their six children: Robert Prettyman of Toledo, Ohio, Susan (Cady) Craig of Onsted, Mich., Timothy (Sandra Spickard) of Tecumseh, Mich., Marcy (Randy) Mayes of Springfield, Mo.; Jonathan (Mary Ann Archambault) of Portland, Ore.; and Lee (Vicky) Prettyman of Onsted, Mich. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 27, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh, followed by a luncheon for family and friends. You may send condolences to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Tecumseh or Hospice of Lenawee. Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
