Olive Ann Ruettinger

1925 - 2016

Olive Ann Ruettinger, age 90, of Tecumseh passed away Jan. 31, 2016, surrounded by her family.

Olive Ann was born June 24, 1925, in Saginaw, Mich., the daughter of Sherman and Marion (Upton) McRae. She was a 1943 graduate of Battle Creek High School and then attended the University of Toledo. Upon graduation, she became a teacher at Ida schools. It was there she met the love of her life, Melvin "Bud" Ruettinger. They were married June 25, 1950, and enjoyed a loving marriage until his passing on Nov. 19, 1985.

They owned and operated the A & W Drive-In in Tecumseh for many years and retired in 1984. Bud and Olive Ann then spent the winter months in Palmetto, Fla., and she continued to do so until her health prevented her from making the trip in 2013. She enjoyed attending U of M football games, U of T football games and spending time at her cottage on Vineyard Lake.

She was a member of the Tecumseh Monday Club, Tecumseh Business and Professional Women, PEO, Abi Evans Chapter of the DAR and the Tecumseh Order of the Eastern Star. She held many offices in these groups.

Olive Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Judith Rumpf of Adrian; grandchildren, Ronnee Rumpf, Christopher (Linda) Rumpf and Daniel Rumpf; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kari Lawson; Madison, Jacob, Brock, Zachary and Aaron Rumpf; Jacob Hunter and Jessie Francis; and great-great-grandson, Emmett Francis.

In addition to her husband, Melvin "Bud," she was preceded in death by her parents and twin brother, James, in World War II.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Gordon Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Battle Creek. Visitation will be at the funeral home 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, with an Eastern Star Memorial Service at 7 p.m. conducted by the Tecumseh Chapter 51 O.E.S.
