Phyllis Jane Eagle

1936 - 2017

HUDSON - Phyllis Jane Eagle, 81, of Manitou Beach passed away Thursday morning, June 22, 2017, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, where she had resided with tender care since the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
Born April 12, 1936, in Hudson, she was a twin daughter of the late Ellsworth J. and Alma G. (Cramer) Scovill. A lifelong resident of the Hudson area, she graduated from its high school and was a faithful member of the Hudson First Congregational Church. She married Joe Owen Eagle on Oct. 9, 1955, in Hudson, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 2002.
Phyllis and Joe owned and operated Eagle Funeral Homes, Inc. from 1955 until Joe's retirement in 1999. Phyllis was very involved in her community and served on several organizational boards in Hudson. Her civic involvements included the Hudson American Legion Auxiliary, Hudson Dance Club, Hudson Woman's Club, Friday Club, Hudson Bridge Club, Devils Lake Yacht Club, and she served as a Girl Scout leader for several years. Her leisure activities consisted of camping, golfing, and spending time with her beloved friends. Phyllis was a doting mother and grandmother whose legacy will carry forward in the hearts of her loving family.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Terri (Jim) Moran of Jackson, Susan (Mark) Johnson of Marine City, Jill (John) Barrett of Jonesville, and Jana (Mark) Monahan of Hudson; her twin brother, Richard (Marilyn) Scovill of Fennville; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Barsegian, Marc (Nicole) Overbeek, Ryan (Sarah) Malarney, Zachary Malarney and Sarah Eggen, Logan Johnson, Halie Johnson, Emily (Terry) Osborne, Abbie (John) Taipalus, Brian (Sydney) Barrett, David (Denise) Monahan, Alyson Monahan, Johnathan Monahan and Ashley Monahan; and 10 great-grandchildren, Aislyn, Tristan, George, William, Barrett, Blake, Brady, Brogan, Brynley and Joelle.
In addition to her parents, and husband of more than 46 years, Joe, Phyllis was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Patricia Ann Eagle; and a granddaughter in infancy, Sally Marie Monahan.
A funeral service for Phyllis will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Dr. Rev. Thomas Burke, Jr. officiating. She will then be laid to rest next to her husband in the family plot at Waldron Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
