Sammye Lee (Swilley) Hart, 92, passed away Saturday Nov. 22, 2025, surrounded by family.
Sammye Lee was born six miles east of Chiefland and was delivered by Dr. Young, a country doctor. She graduated Chiefland High School in 1950. After high school, she studied at Massey Business College in Jacksonville.
Sammye Lee enjoyed living the life on a working farm, vegetable gardening, feeding the birds, enjoying butterflies and tending cattle. Sammye Lee was also an active member of the Daughters of the Confederacy and proud of her southern heritage.
Sammye Lee is preceded in death by her husband Richard, son Michael, brother James, grandsons Brian and Chad.
She is survived by her children, John Hart (Carolyn) Mary Beth Hopson (Daniel), along with 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great- grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Shelby Jean Drake and Patricia Malmind, a brother Sam Swilley (Nancy).
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery. Father Harold Ritchie will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weems and Sons Funeral Home, Chiefland.
