Cheryln Ruth Libal
Cheryln Ruth Libal, 75, of Lexington passed away December 28th, 2023, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg. She was born December 29, 1947, at Lexington, the 3rd of 4 children born to Wilson Libal and Berenice (Velte) Libal.
Cheryln attended District 18 and Lexington High School where she was involved in band and pep club. She graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1966. She was a 4-H member participating in most projects and activities available. She got her degree in Home Economics education from Kearney State.
As a home economics teacher, she taught at Orchard and Arcadia in Nebraska and at Mission, South Dakota. She also ran the Sale Barn Cafe in Lexington, worked at Flowers of Joy, Walmart, Park Avenue assisted living, and was a full-time care giver for three individuals.
Cheryln was a member of Buffalo Grove Church where she sang in the choir, was an Elder, and served on the Pastor search committee.
Even though she did not have children of her own she was an important influence in many children's lives. Besides the students she taught, she babysat lots of children over the years. She spent time and gave special attention to nieces and nephews. In addition, she taught Sunday school and planned and directed the children's Christmas program at Buffalo Grove Church for many years.
Cheryln loved gardening and could tell you the names of most flowers. She was an avid reader and had a great sense of humor. She was good at telling stories, true or a little embellished.
Cheryln was diagnosed with Parkinsons more than 20 years ago. It was a struggle, but she did not complain and continued with a positive attitude to the end.
She is survived by her brother George (Melissa) Libal of Austin Texas, her sister Janet (Ron) Schlattmann of Alliance Nebraska, nieces and nephews Annette (Matt) Fitzgerald of Lexington, Mike (Angela) Schlattmann of Kearney, Bob (Meg) Libal of Austin, Texas, Joe Libal of Gothenburg, Erin Libal of Omaha.
