Donald Tomasek Obituary

Donald Tomasek

February 21, 1931 - April 21, 2025

Donald "Don" Alton Tomasek, 94, of Lexington, Neb. passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 at Ridgeway Senior Living in Lexington.

Don was born on February 21, 1931, in Gothenburg, Neb., the second of four sons to Roy and Velma (West) Tomasek. The family moved to Lexington when Don was a young child, however when he was 10 years old, they moved to Santa Ana, Calif., for six years before returning to Lexington in 1947.

Don graduated from Lexington High School in 1949. After graduation, he began farming on a partnership basis with his father on the family farm. He served in the National Guard from 1951-1958.

On January 9, 1951, Don married Bonnie Fellers in Lexington at the First United Methodist Church. Three children were born to this union: Steven, Susan and David.

He and Bonnie enjoyed playing cards with friends and belonged to a local dance club. Don always stayed involved in his community: as church trustee at Buffalo Grove Presbyterian Church for six years, serving two years as Chairman; he was a member of the Dawson County Spare Rib Club; a member of the Dawson County Corn Growers Association; President of District 22 School Board for six years; served six years as Community Committee Man with the A.S.C.S.; a member of the Farm Bureau; a member of First United Methodist Church in Lexington; he served on the Board of Directors of the Lexington Federal Credit Union, and was president for four years.

In 1963, Don started a farm operation on his own, staying in the business for 28 years. He also had a large hog operation until 1970. In 1977, he made the 200 Bushel Yield Masters Club with DeKalb seed Corn Company. After he left the farm, Don worked for the Dawson County Department of Road for 14 years, retiring in 1996.

Don loved attending his children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandson's sporting activities. He was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and the New England Patriots were his favorite pro football team. Don was known to be quite meticulous, and his vehicles and yard were some of the "best-kept" in his neighborhood.

Survivors include two sons, Steve (Pam) Tomasek and David Tomasek, both of Lexington; and one daughter, Susan Dannehl of Lexington; five grandchildren, Ty (Becky) Tomasek of Phoenix, Ariz., Tara (Dustin Young) Tomasek of Lexington, Jud (Melinda Rutledge) Dannehl of Omaha, Jessica (Steve) Bazis of Omaha, and Kevin (Abby) Dannehl of Omaha; seven great-grandsons, Anthony Rodriguez of Des Moines, Iowa, Benjamin Rodriguez of Lexington, Maxwell and Miles Tomasek of Phoenix, Ariz., Knox, Dax and Hendrix Dannehl of Omaha; one brother, Robert "Bob" (Judy) Tomasek of North Platte; brother-in-law, Ted (Candy) Fellers of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Beverly Tomasek of St. Louis, Mo., Kay (Don) White of Farnam, and Bev Fellers of Lexington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie in 2013; brothers, Jerry and Dale Tomasek.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Pastor Velma Tim, officiating.

Burial will be held prior at 10 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
