A memorial service for Roy L. Holmes will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at the Lexington Berean Bible Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Felix Zaldivar officiating.
Interment will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska.
Roy Lewis Holmes, 84 years of age, of Overton, Nebraska, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Kearney Regional in Kearney, Nebraska. Roy was born on May 17, 1939, in Loup City, Nebraska, the fourth of seven children, born to Ralph and Juanita (Scrimsher) Holmes. He received his education from Ord High School in Ord, Nebraska, and graduated with the class of 1956. He pursued higher education at the Nebraska Vocational Technical School in Milford, Nebraska, and received an associate's degree in Electronics Technology.
Following his education, Roy worked at Plectron Corporation in Overton for 11 years. The family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma for four years where Roy worked for Lowrance Electronics. Roy then took a position at Hy-Gain Electronics in Lincoln, Nebraska, for a couple of years. Roy retired from Reach Electronics in Lexington, Nebraska, following 23 years.
On June 19, 1965, Roy was united in marriage to Kathleen Carol Samuelson at the Westmark Evangelical Free Church in rural Loomis, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Brian, Tracy, and Kirk. The couple made their home in Overton for the last 44 years. Together they enjoyed spending time as a family.
Roy enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. His greatest joy was when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit.
He was a member of the Lexington Berean Bible Church, where he served on the Church board as Secretary, ran the soundboard, and taught Sunday school for many years.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tracy Rohde; three brothers: Jim Holmes and his wife, Evelyn; Donald Holmes; and Jerry Holmes; his sister, Leah Hunt and her husband, Dillard; and a brother-in-law, Byron "Barney" Hunt.
Roy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathy Holmes of Overton; two sons: Brian Holmes and his wife, Debbie of Sutherland, Nebraska; and Kirk Holmes and his wife, Sonya of Richfield, Nebraska; son-in-law: Bruce Rohde of Denver, Colorado; ten grandchildren: Lynn Fast; Heather Maxcy; Terra Zuellner and her husband, Heath; Joshua, Landon, Vincent, and Colton Holmes; Brax Rohde; and Levi and Caleb Waldon; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Viola Hunt of Loup City; and Betty Jo Johnson of Lacy, Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Roy's honor, and kindly suggested to the Guidons or to the Lexington Berean Bible Church.
