Sheridan Wheaton Schanaman
Sheridan Wheaton Schanaman, 27, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away September 15, 2024 at Bryan East Memorial Hospital with his loving parents by his side. Sheridan was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Larry and Kim (Boileau) Schanaman on September 12, 1997.
A Celebration of Life Service was held from 3:30 to 5:30pm on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Riverside Country Club in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Sheridan grew up in Hansen, Nebraska and attended Doniphan public schools through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Grand Island Senior High School, class of 2016. Sheridan recently enrolled in Southeast Community College in Beatrice to pursue a Turf Management degree.
He loved his job and the outdoors and woke up every day at 5am the last 3 years to make sure the grass at Pioneer's, Highlands and most recently Holmes Lake Golf Courses were healthy and the playing surfaces stellar. Whenever possible, he would enjoy the fruits of his labor by golfing with his coworkers.
Sheridan's love of the outdoors included fishing and hunting. Sheridan, Wyoming, his namesake, held a special spot in his heart. This is where he grew up hiking and camping and where his love for the outdoors was fostered. He was particularly excited about his recent father-son fishing trip to Alaska where it's rumored he caught the majority of the 300 lbs. of salmon, halibut and sea bass.
Those close to him called him "Sherry". He was never the loudest in the room but arguably the smartest and he had the gift to make others laugh without even trying. Many good times were spent watching all sports, especially Husker football and baseball. All agreed he was one of the most kind, caring and loyal guys they had ever met. He will be missed.
In addition to his parents, he is survived and loved by grandparents, Ed and Elsie Boileau of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, and John Sturtz of Sheridan, Wyoming, brother, Shay Schanaman (Mimi) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Uncle Chip Boileau of Johnson Lake, Nebraska and Uncle Mick Schanaman of Sheridan, Wyoming.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, June Sturtz and Stanly Schanaman, both of Sheridan, Wyoming.
Family and friends witnessed the struggle Sheridan faced with mental health over the last few years and lovingly battled with him. Sheridan faced everyday courageously and never gave up. God decided he had battled enough and lovingly wrapped him in his arms and took him home.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be establishing a memorial fund in Sheridan's honor. Details will be shared at a later date as we continue to celebrate Sheridan's life and legacy.
