LIMA — Alvin L. "Al" Grapner, 83, passed away at 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Otterbein Cridersville Assisted Living.
Al was born on June 6, 1938, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Darrell and Norma (Fike) Grapner. On October 20, 1962, he married Claire V. Engberg who survives in Cridersville, Ohio.
Al was in the first graduating class of Lima Senior High, then served in the U.S. Marine Corps from '61-'65. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 42 years. Al was a member of First Evangelical & Reformed Church and The Eagles Aerie #370. Al played on the Ford Golf Team and coached the church softball teams. He was an avid Ohio State, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Denver Broncos fan.
Along with his wife, he is survived by three sons: Scott (Carrie) Grapner of Longs, SC, Mike (Jennifer) Grapner of Brighton, CO and Jeff (Missy) Grapner of Lima, OH; four grandchildren: Alexandria, Zachary, Mason and Kevin Grapner; and one great-grandson, Jalen Grapner.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at First Evangelical & Reformed Church on Monday, November 8, 2021. Rev. Edward Rinehart will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima, OH. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by VFW post 1295.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or First Evangelical & Reformed Church.
