Barbara Binz

1942 - 2022

LIMA -- Barbara K. (McGahan) Binz, age 80 of Lima, passed away at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Lima Convalescent Home. She was born May 29, 1942 in Delphos, to Everett and Lucella (Rupert) McGahan who preceded her in death. On April 29, 1990, she married Carl Binz Jr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2011. Survivors include her daughter: Nicolle (Greg) Merkel of Lima; stepchildren: Michael (Mona) Binz of Lexington, KY, David (Julie) Binz of Toledo and Laura (Darryl) Binz Hobbs of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren: Skyler, John (BeaZea Haytas) and Savien (Jackson Swartz) Merkel, stepgrandchildren: Allison Fox, Andrea and Amanda Binz, Charlie (Rachael) Finch, III, Cory Finch, Sarah (Cody) Hobbs Judd and Catherine Hobbs; step great-grandchildren: Madelyn and William Fox, Gabriel, Mia and McKinley Finch, Quillon Finch; and a sister in law, Sally Decker of Columbus. She was blessed to have the special companionship of John Corey of Lima, for the last four years; they enjoyed many good times together. Barbara was a salutatorian and graduate of Elida High School in 1960. She had worked at D.W.G. Cigar Factory and graduated from Lima Memorial's School of Nursing, where she worked for a number of years as a registered nurse. She grew up helping her father who built and founded R-Ville Furniture Store in 1950. She was made a partner in 1976 and became president of R-Ville, Inc. in 1985. She was baptized and confirmed at Easter Vigil in 2011 in St. Gerard's Catholic Church. Her husband Carl also joined St. Gerard's at the same time, a very special time for their family. She was happiest dancing or roller skating with her husband and going to shows with him and their friends. She was very proud of all their grandchildren. She sang with Sweet Adelines and also sang in a barbershop Quartet. Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 26, from 6-8 p.m. at the Shawnee Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services with a Rosary service held at 7:45 p.m. in the funeral home. Visitation will also be available from 9:45 a.m. until the time of Mass in St. Gerard Church. Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, with Fr. Paul Mathew officiating. Entombment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to C.H.P. Home Care & Hospice or Lima Convalescent Home.
