DELPHOS -- Carol Metzger, 89, of Delphos, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita's. She was born on April 17, 1933, in Delphos, OH, to S. York and Rubene (Laemmerman) Powell. They both preceded her in death. On October 4, 1953, she was united in marriage to Kenny Metzger. He survives in Delphos.
She is also survived by a daughter, Laura Otto of Grand Rapids, MI; six grandchildren, Kara (James) Thornburg of Grand Rapids MI, Eric Otto of Detroit MI, Patrick Otto of Portland ME; Haley and Hannah Metzger of Denver, CO; and Daniel (Casey) Yost of Boston MA; and four great grandchildren, Mason Thornburg, Henrik Otto, Olive Yost, and Noah Beveridge.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Steven Metzger, her sisters, Ruby Snow and Janis Burkholder, sister-in-law, Joyce Teman, and brother-in-law, Paul Teman.
Carol was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and retired from Delphos Public Schools after working there for 30 years. She was also a long time volunteer at Mercy Health St. Rita's and was a member of their Volunteer Advisory Board. She held offices in the Delphos Jefferson Band and Athletic Boosters, and the PTA.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Pastor Carol Pretorius will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delphos Public Library.
