ELIDA — Cary Doyt Shafer, 76, died Friday, December 11, 2020, at his home with his family. He was born October 12, 1944, in Lima, to Jacob Richard "Moe" and Marian Francis "Toot" (Gephart) Shafer. They both preceded him in death.
Cary is survived by his daughter, Tracy L. "Pete" Shafer; brothers, Tom (Susan) Shafer, Kraig Shafer and Steve (Sue) Shafer; his sister Nancy Shafer, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard "Dick" (Nancy) Shafer and his brother-in-law, George Davidson.
Cary was a graduate of Bath High School, class of 1963. Shortly after High School, he was drafted in the U. S. Army. Cary was a welder with Clark Equipment and then for General Dynamics of Lima. He retired from General Dynamics as a welding inspector. Cary had played in, and was a coach with the many softball teams in the Lima league. He was a member of the F.O. E., Arie 691, Wapakoneta, and a member of the Cairo Sportsmen Club. Cary was an avid trap shooter and participated in many trap shoots throughout Ohio.
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, where the funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m.. Pastor Glory Geib will officiate with burial to follow in Altstaetter Cemetery, Cairo.
Memorial contributions may be made to Deb's Dog Pet Rescue or to the Alzheimer's Association.
