BLUFFTON — Catherine "Cathy" Jeanne Leis, 61, passed away March 29, 2021 at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Ohio. Cathy was born November 7, 1959 in Lima to the late Richard and Caroline (Pruitt) Hunter.
Cathy was a graduate of Elida High School where she was active in FFA and band. She obtained her associate's degree from Ohio State University - Lima and her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University. Cathy had worked as a camera operator at WLIO News – Lima, part-time in the audio/visual department at the Ohio State University – Lima and later in the audio/visual department at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of English Lutheran Church - Bluffton where she sang in the choir and cherished her time with her church family. Cathy also was a member of the Bluffton Senior Center where she enjoyed participating in their activities. She enjoyed bargain shopping for herself but more importantly for others at the Et Cetera Shop in Bluffton, stamp collecting, playing tuba in concert bands and the Salvation Army Band. Cathy also enjoyed staying active and participated in the Cleveland Marathon and GOBA, but most of all she loved socializing with her friends and family.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Barnes of Indiana; a grandson, Colton Barnes; two sisters, Denise Hunter of Lima, Melanie (Ronald) Johnson of Bascom and a brother, Michael (Jennifer) Hunter of Akron.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at English Lutheran Church - Bluffton. Pastor Kevin Mohr officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to English Lutheran Church or the Bluffton Senior Center.

I'm so sorry to hear of Cathy's passing. I didn't get to know her until her life had become difficult because of her injuries and her health. She was always kind, funny and insistent on being independent. I really liked her and spoke with her briefly whenever I would see her. I will make a donation to the church in her memory.

I am truly sorry for the loss of Cathy. We had many good times at Elida High School playing sousaphones in marching band and going to band camp at 4-H Camp Palmer. Prayers for peace.
