Dan Hennon Obituary

LIMA - Dan Hennon passed away peacefully surrounded by his family the evening of December 20, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. His journey in this life began on May 5, 1937 when he was born to Jesse Neil and Mildred(Deitsch)Hennon in Lima Ohio.

As a seventh grader at Central High School, he first laid eyes on Suzanne Coley. That day, he turned to his best friend Merrill Castel and told him that he was going to marry that girl. His prediction came true. On July 23, 1960, Suzanne made him very happy and became his wife. They had two children: a daughter, Cathleen, and a son, Paul arrived 4 years later.

Dan was a great athlete and played basketball for Central High School. Part of Central's last graduating class, he went on to play basketball for Wittenberg University. In 1972 he graduated from Ohio Northern University with a degree in Business.

His curiosity and genuine love of people were two of his greatest traits - and he had many. He loved fishing and organized an annual trip with friends to Ara Lake in Canada to fish and yuk it up for over 35 years. He antiqued with his dear friend Ronnie Bowers and the two of them had more projects than they could ever finish! Every time Dan brought home an old scale or broken pressed back chair his wife would roll her eyes and he would happily take it to the basement where he would bring it back to life. He enjoyed researching the history of things and places. His favorite place was his hometown - Lima Ohio. He was a Lima boy, through and through.

After 40 years at Ford Motor Company he retired. He filled some of his time over the next ten -plus years volunteering as a docent at the Allen County Museum. He gave tours and did special research projects on various buildings and businesses in town which also let him use some of those antiques he had collected over the years

Dan was an optimist, a thoughtful person who enjoyed life and believed in the goodness in people. He loved a good laugh and surprises. And he loved his family. He was a devoted and fun husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Dan is survived by his wife, Suzanne, daughter Cathleen, son Paul (Cynthia) and grandson, Jacob Daniel Hennon, of Toledo, Ohio. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Janet (John)Ryder, Patricia (Tom) Stippich and nieces and nephews; Anne Marie (Michael)LaRocco, of Benicia, CA, Steven (Krista) Stippich, of Pflugerville, TX and Sarah (Reid Hoffman) Stippich of Philadelphia.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, two sisters, Mildred Hennon, Mary Giusti, a brother Neil Hennon and his loving step-mother, Louise (Klausing) Hennon.

His family would like to express their gratitude to all of those who have helped to care for Dan over the years. Dr Tremouilis who was Dan's caring physician and a guide and support to his family, Allen County Council On Aging, the entire staff at Springview Manor and the care given by Interim Hospice, especially Jeannette Clark. The family is forever grateful for the care and love you showed him. Dan appreciated your kindness and you knew it because he thanked you with that great smile.

There will be a memorial for Dan held in May to celebrate his life. The family asks that donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or the Allen County Museum (www.allencountymuseum.org).
