KALIDA -- David J. Schumacker, 74, of Kalida formerly of Ottawa, passed away at 2:19 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2025 at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born August 27, 1951, in Lima to the late Wilfred and Betty (Balister) Schumacker. On September 29, 1972, he married Barbara Bockrath, who preceded him in death on February 11, 1987.
He is survived by four children: Renee (Austin) Hardy of Maine, Jeff (Lauren) Schumacker of Texas, Kevin (Brittany) Schumacker of Texas, and Katrina (Paul) D'Amore of Georgia; three grandchildren: Beau Schumacker, Oliver Schumacker, and Isabella D'Amore; three siblings: Therese Stonehart, Ann (Ron) Zufelt, both of Arizona and Tim (Sharon) Schumacker of Indiana.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Les "Jigger" Stonehart.
David retired from Tower International, Bluffton, where he worked as a Toolmaker and was a member of the UAW. He was a former member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. David loved his yearly trips to Alaska with the guys, dirt track racing and enjoying a beer with anyone who stopped by his home.
A celebration of life and private graveside burial will be held in January of 2026. Arrangements are under the direction of Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.
