Donald Smith

1953 - 2023

LIMA -- Donald R. Smith, 69, passed away on April 16, 2023, at 12:20 am, at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Donald was born September 4, 1953 in Lima, OH, to the late Roger and Geneva (Miller) Smith who survives in Lima, OH. On June 28, 1986 he married Laura (Jimenez) Smith who survives in Lima, OH. They have been together forty five great years.

Donald graduated from Elida High School in 1971. He then received an Associates Degree in Business from Columbus State Community College. Later in life he attended Rhodes State College and took various courses in Computer Networking and eventually taught some of the classes on campus. Donald was a very kind and caring man, he was very dedicated to his family and the family is so blessed to have known him and be in his life. Donald was an avid bowler and participated in Atlanta, GA and Salt Lake City, UT in the Transplant Olympics. He was also thankful for his transplant that extended his quality of life.

Donald is survived by his mother, Geneva (Miller) Smith of Lima, OH, wife, Laura (Jimenez) Smith of Lima, OH, children, Dawn (Kevin Moore) Smith of Lima, OH, Acacia Luster of Columbus, OH, grandchildren, Chalise Bankston of Lima, OH, Marquis (Missy) Bankston of Lima, OH, Azaria Luster of Columbus, OH, J.J. Luster of Columbus, OH, great-grandchildren, Marquis, Jr. Nylah, Zyair, Samiyah, Javion, Rilynn, Layonna, Salena and T'Andre, sister, Linda (Ben) Hoover of Elida, OH, special aunts, JoAnn and Suzy, he is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia "Patty" Welch.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to The National Kidney Foundation.

Feel free to dress casual and wear Cleveland Browns or Ohio State attire to the visitation.
