LIMA —Gary R. West age 74, of Lima passed away 7:38 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born May 9, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Marion and Ruth (Kratzke) West.
He married Yolanda 'Lonnie' Taviano who survives in Lima.
Gary served in the U. S. Navy. He retired from Rays Supermarkets and had worked for Ford Motor Company.
He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Lima Eagles.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, bowling, metal detecting and NASCAR, following Earnhardt, Sr. for years.
Additional survivors include daughters: Melissa (Andrew) Blubaugh of Wadsworth, Melinda (Pete) Spoerke of Wadsworth and Melanie (David) Ritchey of Navarre, FL; 7 grandchildren: Ben, Nathan, Emma, Evelyn, Jonah, Jack and Gabe; a brother-in-law DeWayne Newman of Lima and many in-laws and nieces and nephews, several cousins in Minnesota and close friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Andrea Miller and sisters: Marlene Newman, Eileen Kozlowski and Sharon Shroyer.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville from noon to 2:00 p.m. The funeral will follow at 2 with nephew Tug Taviano officiating and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by V. F. W. Post 1275, Lima.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Rita's Hospice, St. Luke's Lutheran Church or the Veterans Food Pantry in Lima.

My name is Dick Johnson. I served in the Navy in 1964-1966. A close friend of mine when I was stationed at the Bermuda Naval Facility was a sailor named Gary West. Could this be the same?
