WAYNESFIELD — Hazel P. Smith, 101, of Waynesfield, passed from this earth into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 10:04 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 at the Auglaize Acres. She was born December 8, 1916, in Waynesfield, Ohio, the daughter of Clarence and Esta (Hattery) Thompson, who preceded her in death. On June 19, 1937, she married Robert James Smith, and he passed away May 19, 1987.
Other survivors include: 2 daughters, Darene (Gordon) Coates, Wapakoneta, Maxine (Ralph) Butturff, Waynesfield, 6 grandchildren, Tava (Pat) Ridenour, Jolene (Terry) Shepherd, Chad (Darcy) Coates, Shanna (Kary) Campbell, Christopher Butturff, Eric (Elaine) Butturff, 12 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, 8 step great great grandchildren, sister, Rose Mary Woods, Bellefontaine, OH, brother, Robert (Marge) Thompson, Powell, OH, caregivers, Pat, Dena, Lou, Sue, Elaine, Letty.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leonard and Jack Thompson, sister Ruby Bowers, and her half sister, Clairine Crawford.
Hazel, a graduate of Waynesfield High School where she was valedictorian of her class, worked for 37 ½ years at the Yale Brothers Printing in Waynesfield. She was the oldest member at the Waynesfield Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo and cards, singing, playing guitar, and yodeling. Hazel enjoyed country music and gospel hymns. Marty Stuart and Connie Smith were her favorite country and western singers. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 29th at the Waynesfield Baptist Church, 512 North Westminster Street, Waynesfield, Rev. Donald Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8, Sunday, January 28th, at the Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home, 1102 Lincoln Ave., Wapakoneta, Ohio, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesfield Baptist Church, the Wayne Twp. Fire and Rescue, or the Waynesfield Police Department. Condolences may be expressed at www.bayliffandeleyfh.com.
