NEW BERN, NC -- Jack Tranthem, 98, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at New Bern, NC.
How do you sum up 98 years? With a life filled with strength and joy.
Jack was a proud WWII veteran who served his country with honor and enjoyed sharing his adventures in the military with his grandchildren. After the war, he spent much of his life doing what he loved most, bowling with friends and casting a line into the water, finding peace in the rhythm of the game and the patience of the catch. Some might say he was a "legend" on the lanes in Lima, OH. His life was marked by simple pleasures and lasting friendships.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothy; son, Rocky; daughters, Patsy and Patricia; grandchildren: Teresa, Tammy, Jimmy, Jerry, Tina and Allen; great-grandchildren: Todd, Bryan, Tamika, Spencer, Erica, Jacob, Camrin, Hannah, Brandon, and Jonathan; and great-great-grandchildren: Trenton, Taylor, Khloee, Ethan, Mack, Chessnie, Cheyenne, and Micah.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Mary; his sister, Betty; his son, Walter; and daughter, Connie.
A good man who lived a long, full life.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
