WAPAKONETA — James W. "Jim" Ewald, 70, of Wapakoneta, died 5:37 p.m., Mon. May 14, 2018, at Mercy Health- St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born Nov. 21, 1947, in Lima, the son of Eugene "Bill" & Ruth (Hole) Ewald, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 10, 1971, he married Pamela Krites, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2000. On Dec. 21, 2001, he married Kristine A. (Niese) Eisert, and she survives.
Other survivors include, 3 sons, Todd (Marian) Ewald, Wapakoneta, Patrick Ewald, Wapakoneta, & Kristopher Ewald, St. Marys, 2 step-children, Julie (Roger) Smith, & Jeff (Amy) Eisert, both of Wapakoneta, 5 grandchildren, Jared Smith, Megan Smith, Alex Eisert, Ethan Eisert, & Jacob Rushton, 2 brothers, Dr. Gary (Janet) Ewald, Ashland, OH & Joe (Cathy) Ewald, Powell, OH, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Nancy Kramer, Jane Krites, Jean (Rollin) Lutterbein, Patricia Hinegardner, Christine Krites, Barb (Dave) Copeland, Nick (Kathy) Krites, Polly (Scott) Thomas, Cindy (Phil) DiSorbo, Phil (Deb) Niese, Melissa (Jim) Staelgraeve, Tom (Sue) Niese, Mitch Niese, Leslie (Mike) Covey, & Doug (Vi) Niese, Numerous nieces and nephews,
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Linda Ewald, and 2 brothers-in-law, Kenneth Kramer & Dan Hinegardner.
Jim was a route driver for Pepsi Cola for 23 years, and then worked for the City of Wapakoneta Recycling Dept., retiring after 13 years. A 1966 graduate of St. Joseph High School, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. He also attended St. Patrick Catholic Church, Glynwood. His other memberships included the Sons of the American Legion, Post #330, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, and the former Elks Lodge, all of Wapakoneta. Jim was a huge fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Detroit Tigers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his younger years, he coached Little League in Wapakoneta, and enjoyed golfing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Fri. May 18, 2017, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, Fr. Sean Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Thurs. and 9-9:45 a.m., at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, 1102 Lincoln Ave. (St. Rt. 501), Wapakoneta. Memorials may be directed to the Stained Glass

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I' Always remember when my Dad was Ill and Jim would come over and they would talk sports for hours. He was a wonderful friend who will be missed. All our love.
