JACKSON CENTER -- Janet Lee "Liz" Schnell, 88, of Jackson Center, passed away peacefully at 9:49 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born in Sidney, Ohio on August 1, 1935, a daughter of the late Lauren L. Lenhart and Gertrude Avanelle (Ambos) Lenhart.
Liz is survived by her two children, Charles Schnell, and Kimberly Mitchell; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, John Lenhart; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Liz was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Ann Byrd and her brother, Bill Lenhart.
A 1953 graduate of Jackson Center High School, Liz had worked as the head dietician for Wapakoneta City Schools and taught restaurant management and served as Senior Class Advisor at Lima Senior High School. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Montra, where she served with the Esther Rebecca Circle. Liz volunteered much of her time to local organizations, including Fish Pond Food Pantry, the Wigwam Youth Club in Wapakoneta, American Women's Club, and was on the board of directors for Superior Credit Union in Lima. Her culinary talents were utilized in her leading catering of the Jackson Center Education Foundation annual banquets. Jackson Center Community Thanksgiving, the Neil Armstrong Homecoming event in 1969, and for a Barbara Bush speaking event. In her leisure time,
Liz enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, reading, and watching The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, and Jackson Center High School sports.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 17714 Montra Road in Jackson Center. Inurnment will be in Emanuel Church Cemetery.
