COLUMBUS GROVE -- Joanne M. Hoyt, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, Ohio. She was born on January 2, 1933, in Columbus Grove to Charles "Ted" and Loretta (Anderson) Clevidence. In October 1954, she married Donald N. Hoyt, also from Columbus Grove, who died September 2, 2003.
Joanne was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1951. She attended the Lima Memorial School of Nursing graduating in 1954 with her RN and continued her career at Lima Memorial Hospital from graduation until retiring after 30 years of service, after which she volunteered at the hospital. Joanne was a member of the Columbus Grove Mother's Club, the Columbus Grove Volunteer Fire Department auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. She was a member of the Columbus Grove Presbyterian Church until it closed and is a current member of the Columbus Grove Christian Church.
Joanne loved her boys – her sons - her grandkids and her great-grandkids. After retirement, she and Don enjoyed many camping trips and winters in McAllen, Texas. Of course, winter in Texas had to wait until after their favorite sport season which was Columbus Grove Football plus Christmas with the grandkids.
Surviving are her sons Michael D Hoyt of Lima, Ohio and Steven A. (Rita) Hoyt of Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving are sisters Rita (Roy) Schmutz of Columbus Grove, Ohio, and Cathy (Raymond) Walker of Thailand; grand-children Jeremy (Cara) Hoyt, Nathaniel (Krista) Hoyt, and Anthony (Katie) Hoyt and four great-grandchildren; plus numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews from the Hoyt family side.
The family would like to thank the staff at Maple Crest Senior Living, Mennonite Memorial Home and Bridge Hospice for their care of Joanne.
Friends may call at the Columbus Grove Christian Church from 9:30am until time of service at 11:00am on Friday, April 26, 2024. Services will begin at 11:00am, Pastor Geoff Eubank presiding, with burial to follow in Truro Cemetery. Joanne loved colorful flowers and the family requests everyone wear cheerful colors to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Columbus Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 105 S. Main Street, Columbus Grove, Ohio 45830 or to Bridge Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
