LIMA -- John L. "Jack" Sims, Jr., 74, of Lima, passed away at 1:21 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born on May 29, 1951, in Sunflower, MS, to John L. Sims, Sr. and Martha Lee (Nettles) Sims, who both preceded him in death. On August 11, 1986, he married Linda Anne Johnson, who survives in Lima and they had been together for 53 years.
John proudly served his country a a member of the US Marines during Vietnam. He retired as a foreman/supervisor in 2014 after 41 years of service at Buckeye Rubber/BRP. He was saved at a very young age and had a close relationship with his Savior. He was an active member of One Church Lima.
He LOVED fishing and watching sports. His favorite teams were The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns and the Lima Senior Spartans. He was a BBQ master and loved having cook outs. He was a true family man and loved all his family, especially his wife, who he was a caregiver for the last few years.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Linda Anne Sims are his daughter Tammy Pelletier of Lima; his two grandsons Troy L. Pelletier, Sr. and Robert "Scooter" Thompson, Jr.; his eight great-grandchildren Troy L. Pelletier, Jr., Trezur L. Pelletier, Tionna Pelletier, Tripp Pelletier, Mesiah Thompson, Braylen Thompson, Tristan Pelletier and Sania Thompson; his sisters Ruby Sims, Armin (Charles) Petty, Betty Sims and Carolyn Sims, all of Lima; his step-brother Tony Long of Columbus. Also surviving are his aunts Lucille Nettles Jones, Betty (Johnny) Williams and R.D. "Boney" Nettles all of Saginaw, MI and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Melvin, James, Ernest, Joe and Roy Sims; his sister Shelly "Shirley" Macklin; his paternal grandmother Grace Chapman; his maternal grandparents Maggie (John, Sr.) Nettles.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025 at One Church Lima, 3075 Yoakam Road, Lima, with Pastors Paul Ross and Larry Turner officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for 2 hours prior to the services from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery following the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association.

To the bereaved family of John Sims, I wish to give you my deepest condolence in your loss. Many, many years ago my family lived in Lima where my brothers Harry and Lemenzo Jr. attended Garfield Elementary along with John and his late brother Melvin and we all spent countless times at the YMCA. I can so clearly hear John's laughter and he was always up for a good laugh. REST IN PEACE MARINE a may GOd Almighty will bless you all with his strength and comfort is my prayer for you all in Jesus name. AMEN.
