Jordan Banks Obituary

LIMA -- Jordan D. D. Banks, age 20, went home to be with his savior on December 15, 2024, at 4:28 am, surrounded by his family. Jordan was born September 4, 2004, in San Diego, CA, to his father Marvin and mother Naomi.

Jordan left behind his parents, maternal grandma, Gretchen Banks, his stepdad, Nicholas Spicer, his brother, Jaxin Spicer, his girlfriend, Koryn Halker, aunt and uncle, Joanna and Justin Badum, cousins Aaliyah, Noah, Danni, and aunt, Olivia Banks, to be with his maternal grandpa, Tony Banks Sr. and uncle, Tony Banks Jr.

Known as "JBanks", Jordan was a 2023 graduate of Shawnee High School where he thrived as running back on their football team with plans to continue his dream of playing college football. In early 2023 his dreams would take a back seat after receiving the devastating diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. Despite being given a month to live, Jordan knew ultimately it was up to God. He knew with the support of his friends and family he would be able to persevere. Because of his willingness to fight and determination he took the leap of faith in trying a trial treatment which little was known about and became the first with metastatic brain cancer to do so. The success he had with this drug opened doors for others in need of treatment now and in the future.

Through the ups and downs of this two year journey not only did Jordan's faith grow, but he was also able to encourage and help others' faith grow alongside him. Jordan's boldness towards life drew people in from everywhere, creating the army that supported him throughout his entire journey. His sarcasm, love, and personality will be missed by everyone in many walks of life. Despite his young age, Jordan still had such a deep love for the Lord, his family, and friends. A heart of gold stopped beating, two willing hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. "So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." John 16:22

There will be a memorial service held on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at 6:00 pm at the Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Officiating the service will be Pastor Matt Steiner, of Pandora Missionary Church.

Friends may visit on Sunday from 4:00 pm until the time of the service at the Shawnee Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family which will be donated to cancer research in Jordan's name.

To the bereaved Family, I wish to extend my deepest condolences on your great loss. I did not ever know Jordan or ever meet him as the same for the bereaved family members. I lived in Lima some sixty years ago and always having fond childhood memories, I still tune in to the Lima News as there are also some of my childhood friends that I keep in contact with and upon reading Jordan's beautiful Obituary , I was deeply touched by the kind words of expression of love given about him along with the attention given to God about where Jordan stood with him up until his passing. Reading of his sudden illness and how he still kept praising his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ even after being unable to pursue his dream of playing College Football just totally showed his trust and strength in God which I find has enlightened me in Jesus name. Taking home Jordan at the tender age of 20 years of age ONLY shows that "God does take the best !!" Now may the good Lord keep, comfort, strengthen and bless you all is my prayer.
