LIMA — Joyce Marie "Sam" Cunningham, 77, passed away at 9:55 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, with her family by her side.
Joyce was born on October 17, 1943, in Lima, Ohio, to the late John and Doris (Provanche) Sweeney. On December 29, 1963 she married Dennis Cunningham who followed her in death on September 4, 2021.
Joyce was a 1962 Lima Senior High graduate. She was a teller at City Loan and then followed her husband in the Navy for 20 years, doing various establishment jobs for them. She then retired from the Huntington Bank where she was a Commercial Loan Officer. She enjoyed Bingo, Solitaire and "The Place". Joyce loved "Bailey", her canine companion and "Pickles" her cat.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Jeannette Moening) Cunningham of Beaverdam; grandchildren, Jessica Marling, Tia Cunningham and Cody Cunningham; great-granddaughters, Marlee Cornett and Charlie Cunningham; sister, Phyllis Provanche of Wapakoneta; brother, Phillip (Mary Ann) Sweeney of Lima; sister, Doris (Dan) Brickner of Elida; brother-in-law, Keith (Carol) Cunningham of Lima; sisters-in-law Beverly Sweeney of Vandalia and Carol Sweeney of Lima; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings: Patricia Beougher, Robert Sweeney, Gloria Kimmey, Barb Esmonde and George "Pug" Sweeney.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the funeral home. Rev. Ted Bible will officiate. Entombment will be in Gethsemani Mausoleum, Lima, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deb's Dogs or LACP.
