COLUMBUS GROVE -- Karl N. Schumacher, age 90, passed away on June 7, 2023, in Columbus Grove, Ohio. Karl was born August 13, 1932, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Harry and Clara (Kahle) Schumacher. On January 9, 1965, he married Betty Turnwald who preceded him in death on March 6, 2015.
Karl is survived by his son and three daughters: Randy (Roxanne) Schumacher, Columbus Grove; Lori (Troy) Schroeder, Columbus Grove; Karen (Teddy) McCoy, Kalida; and Karla (Ray) Boes, Continental. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren: Rachel (Clay) Diller, Robyn, Riley, and Reed Schumacher; Tyler (Rachel Hallman), Kyle, Katie, and Linzi Schroeder; Karissa (Garrett) Gerdeman, Tejay (Janette Knitz) Boes, Tyler (Mikaela Casey) Boes; Jeff (Kerri) Gerding, Matt (Katie) Gerding, Logan Gerding and Lucas Gerding. Six great-grandchildren: Louis and Andrew Gerding, Jett Diller, Norah Gerding, Roan Boes and Avery Kane with baby Gerdeman and baby Boes on the way. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kay Schumacher, Columbus Grove.
Karl was preceded in death by his grandson Rob Gerding, brothers Alfred (Norma) Schumacher, Robert "Whitey" (Phyllis) Schumacher, Paul (Ruth) Schumacher, Ray (Joan) Schumacher, Harry (Margaret) Schumacher, Clete Schumacher, Victor Schumacher, and sister Pauline (Alfred) Osterhage.
Karl attended St. Anthony's Grade School and was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, Class of 1950. Mr. Schumacher worked for and managed Macke's Cannery of Columbus Grove, then worked and retired from Meto-Kote Equipment, Lima. Karl was a life long farmer. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus, Council #5669. He served on both the St. Anthony Church and School Councils. Karl enjoyed farming, family, but especially his grandchildren. He never turned down an opportunity to play Euchre.
Friends may call at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, where visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00am on Monday, June 12, 2023, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus Grove, Father Mark Hoying presiding with burial to follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Putnam County Hospice, Ottawa, Ohio.
