LIMA -- Kathleen Ann "Kay" Dirmeyer, age 81, was called home at 1:31 a.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Lima Memorial Health System with the love of her family by her side.
Kay was born May 14, 1942, in Lima, OH, to the late Stephen and Opal L. (Cummins) Yaney. On December 31, 1979, she married Robert E. Dirmeyer.
Kay was a 1960 graduate of Lima Senior High School. She had previously worked as a bus driver for Allen East Schools and most recently as a Special Deputy for the Allen County Sheriff's Department. Kay was an avid horse lover and past member of the Allen County Mounted Posse. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and friends. Above all, Kay was a proud wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert E. Dirmeyer of Lima, children, Charles (Joni) Smith of Lima, Stephen (LeAnn) Smith of Lima, Bill (Mary) Smith of Lima, Robert Dirmeyer, Jr. of Harrod, and Deborah (Rick) Kirkendall of Lima; grandchildren, Brandt Smith, Phillip Jeanneret, Jenna Smith, Eric (Sydney) Smith, Brianna (Mike) Dicke, Trevin Hirsch, Paige (David) Kiley, Gracie Dirmeyer, Allison Dirmeyer, Kayla Wood, Cody "Ryan" (Amanda) Wood, and Chase (Alicia) Wood; great grandchildren, Eli, Aurora, Everly, Jensen, Kenly, Maxon, Benji, Aubrey, Gideon, and Rhyett; brother, Stephen Yaney; sisters-in-law, Madonna (Marion) Lawrence, Jean Dirmeyer, and Paula Dirmeyer; brothers-in-law, Richard Dirmeyer, Jeff (Connie) Dirmeyer, and Murray Mewhorter; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a great grandson, Hayden Glasco; brothers, Dale (Jane) Yaney, and Charles (Deb) Yaney; sisters-in-law, Rita Yaney, Rose Mewhorter, and Donna Dirmeyer; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Dirmeyer, and Randy Dirmeyer.
Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at LaFayette Congregational Christian Church, 191 W. Main Street, LaFayette, OH 45854. Pastor Charles Moeller will officiate the service. A burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel and from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 2, prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
