Kevin Cheney Obituary

LIMA -- Kevin Lewis Cheney, 71, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Kevin was born on November 25, 1954, in Lima, Ohio, to Jack (who proceeded him in death) and Janet (Snook) Cheney.

He was a 1973 graduate of Elida High School. He proudly worked security at United Telephone Company / Sprint where he received a Sheriff's Commendation Award and then finished his working career at Lowe's in Lima where he was recognized as an Employee of the Year.

Kevin is survived by his daughter, Melinda (Cheney) Cox of Dayton; grandchildren, Hailie Cox and Matteo Cox of Dayton; brothers, Keith (Jan) Cheney of Lima and Brian Cheney of Lima; nephew, Trent (Megan Joseph) Cheney of Lima, niece, Ashley (Shawn) Stephens of Lima; great niece, Lilly Stephens of Lima; great nephews, Henry and Theodore of Lima. He is also survived by his beloved pets Louie and Buddy.

He was proceeded in death by his son, Steven Cheney; sisters, Linda Debra Cheney and Krista Kay Cheney.

Kevin was a member of First Evangelical and Reform Church where he served on the Church security committee. He was also a member of the Allen County Republican Party Central and Executive Committee where he served as a Sr. Advisor to the Chairman. He was also a member of Lima Fraternal Order of Eagles Aiere #370. He served proudly for many years on the Board of the Samaritan House in Lima.

He loved life and lived it to the fullest from an early age. At 16 years of age, he spent a summer driving with the Mustang Hell Drivers Thrill Show alongside the famous Joie Chitwood. He also raced at the Wayne Trail Dragway where he won his class in the early 1970's. For many years he ran in the demolition derby at the Allen and Auglaize County Fairs in cars always bearing his beloved number 13C.

Kevin loved God and Jesus, his family, his church family and the Republican Luncheon Club family. His true joys in life were attending the Allen County Fair, watching Lima Loco games, volunteering at the Victory Center, watching horse racing and listening to gospel music and as he would always say the old and true country music.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 pm. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, with visitation 1 hour prior. Rev. Ed Rhinehart will officiate.
