Lisa Carver Obituary

LISA CARVER

LIMA — Lisa Arkett Carver, 62, passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2015 at her home in Lima, Ohio, after a long battle with multiple health issues.

Lisa was born on December 20th, 1953 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to loving parents Allen & Phyllis Arkett.

Lisa graduated from Norton High School, Norton, Ohio in 1972, and then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Art Education at Bowling Green State University, graduating in 1976. She furthered her education by achieving her Master's degree from Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio in 1997. She was a dedicated educator who taught not only art but also life lessons to many children in the Elida Local and Lima City School systems for 30 years, retiring from teaching in 2010. Lisa was a well-known, caring, teaching professional and the honored recipient of the Shirley Dailey Award for her Volunteer service to others in the City of Lima.

Lisa lived selflessly by donating countless hours of her time and artistic talents to many at her place of worship, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, and with the Allen County Girl Scouts at Camp Woodhaven in Lima. She was passionately involved with Girl Scouting for over 35 years, serving as a troop leader, cookie chairperson, and a pottery teacher at the camp's pottery studio.

Lisa was an energetic, loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend who cared for others in extraordinary ways. Lisa is survived by her parents, Phyllis and Allen Arkett of Norton/Akron, Ohio; her husband Jon of Lima/Sandusky; her daughters Erin (Andrew) of Bowling Green, Ohio; and Camille (Detron) and granddaughter Ivy of Lima; her brother Stuart (Marilyn) of Stratford, Ontario and nieces Gabrielle and Claire; sisters Jennifer (Lonnie) of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; and Casley (Robert) Nagengast of Carver, Minnesota and nieces Sara and Paula and nephew Keaton. She was also survived by sister-in-laws Patricia Callan (Bill), Jan Young (Louis), Molly Carver (Paul), and Kelly Boissoneault (Harry), all of Sandusky, Ohio as well as Meg Nester (Larry) of Toledo, Ohio, and one brother-in-law Cam Carver (Carol) of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Lisa loved to travel, but her most favorite vacation spot was Edisto Island, South Carolina. She gathered her family together for many memorable times in the sun and sand for over 25 years. When not traveling, she was rarely idle and happily dedicated herself to her family and friends, visiting with neighbors, gardening, enjoying music, volunteering, lovingly watching her granddaughter, and spending precious time with her cherished "Bridge Group" teacher girlfriends of nearly 40 years, who by the way, rarely played bridge, but immensely cared for and respected one another.

Family and friends will gather for a Memorial Service to celebrate the life and legacy of Lisa on January 30, 2016 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 209 West North Street, in Lima, Ohio 45801. The visitation will begin at 9:00 am, followed by the memorial service at 11:00, with lunch afterward.

In lieu of flowers and other remembrances, memorials may be made to the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio: Appleseed Ridge for use at the Camp Woodhaven Program Center on Robb Avenue in Lima, Ohio.

Lisa and Jon and their girls visited us for Thanksgiving just after her first cancer treatments many years ago. I toasted her for her nearly unparallelled capacity to display the quality of GRACE at all times and places. I would that I had a small fraction of her graciousness! Farewell Aunt Lisa.

Mrs. Carver was my art teacher at Elida. She made that class fun and memorable. Now years later I bumped into her one evening and she was sharing her love of arts and crafts with yet another generation of kids. You could see the lights in the kids eyes when they seen her knowing that they were going to do something fun. She will be missed by many of her former students but mostly by her family. My prayers go to all who were touched by her life.

My thoughts and prayers to Lisa's entire family. My memories go back to neighborhood flashlight tag, school events and families that shared many life events together. I had the good fortune to visit with Lisa not long ago for a few minutes in Akron. Our visit was short but sweet a woman that was always easy to talk to and a great heart . We shared a few stories and memories my treat. Her smile and warm heart always with her and infectious for those around. I am sure she will be missed by many but remembered by all she touched. I had the privilege of meeting Lisa when we both started teaching at Elida Elementary in 1976. I knew she was an extraordinary person (right out of college) back then. When she started having a family and left our school, I missed her, but she returned at times as a volunteer, and I was glad for those encounters. By then she lived in my neighborhood in Lima, so I sometimes saw her "around" also. My world seems smaller without you in it, Lisa! My condolences to Jon and daughters! We all loved you and will miss you, but feel SO fortunate to have known you!

She built a wonderful legacy and was a model of all that a Girl Scout should be. She is irreplaceable and will be sorely missed by the volunteers, girls, and staff at Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.
