SPENCERVILLE -- Paul James Wein, 89, of Spencerville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville.
Paul was born on December 21, 1935 in Spencer Township, to the late F. E. "Ed" and Sadie Elizabeth (Engard) Wein. He was a member of the 1953 graduating class of Spencerville High School. Paul started working for Sandkuhl Tile company in Kossuth until graduation and then started hauling milk for Fisher Cheese Co. in 1953. In 1969, he switched jobs and started driving tanker trucks for Texaco Inc. and continued as a tank truck driver when he started working for Sohio B.P. in 1979 until his retirement in 1999. Throughout his work life, Paul periodically drove school bus for Spencerville Schools. On June 29, 1956, Paul was united in marriage to the late Elsie Grace Knapp and together they had two children.
"PaPaul" as he was known to his grandkids, adored his family & treasured his time with them. He was deeply loved. Buckeyes football games in Autumn were always on, and he often tuned into the Grand Ole Opry. He loved being outside grilling or tending the flowers and the lawn. He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. Paul always loved hearing a good story. Always appreciating peace & quiet, he remained grateful for everything he had. The man truly respected his space and the guests he welcomed into it.
Paul is survived by his children, Dennis (Teresa) Wein of Greenville and Debra (Jack Sturgill) Hurles of St. Marys; six grandchildren, Daniel (Sarah) Rex, Jonathan (Lindsay) Rex, Nathan Rex, Rachael (Justin McJunkin) Rex, Matthew (Dani) Hurles, and Brandon Hurles; ten great grandchildren with two on the way; and one brother, Robert "Bob" (Janice) Wein of Spencerville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and four siblings, Ruth Benson, Marguerite Fought, Ralph Wein, and Esther Wein.
There will be a visitation from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. His funeral service will start at 1:30 p.m. with an hour of visitation before the funeral on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at the funeral home with Pastor Andrew J. Atkins officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Spencerville Cemetery.
