OTTAWA – Richard L. "Dick" Schroeder, 85, of Ottawa, passed away on December 31, 2022, at the Meadows of Ottawa. He was born February 27, 1937, in Napoleon to the late Edward "Ed" and Sadonna (Kimberly) Schroeder. On June 27, 1956, in New Cleveland, he married Martha Ann "Mart" Kuhlman, who survives in Ottawa.
Other survivors include three children: Nick (Sue) Schroeder of Columbus Grove, Jeff Schroeder of Ottawa and Lori (Ken) Arbogast of New Riegel; brother: John Schroeder of Arlington, TX; a sister: Janice Muncy of Archbold; a sister-in-law, Chris Schroeder of Ottawa; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles, and Ron Schroeder; two sisters, Betty Gilligan, and Diane Twelliger; a stepsister, Norma Meyers; a nephew, Timmy Schroeder; in-laws, Ralph and Julitta Kuhlman; brothers-in-law, Nick Kuhlman and James Rieman; and a sister-in-law, Marge Rieman.
Dick attended Napoleon High School. He was a cement mason and retired from Mel Lancer Construction, Napoleon. He had also worked for H. U. Tuttle Construction, Lima, and Mosser Construction, Fremont. When working for Mosser he did interstate bridge work in Ohio and West Virginia. Dick was a Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed going to grandkids sporting events. He also liked to fish with his brothers at Lake Erie and in Canada.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.
Memorial donations may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School or Putnam County Hospice.
