KALIDA -- Ronald L. VonderEmbse, 81, of Kalida, passed away at 3:28 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2022 at The Meadows of Kalida. He was born June 18, 1940 in Kalida to the late Robert and Viola (Karcher) VonderEmbse. On July 8, 1961, he married Janice Stoepfel. They were married for 60 loving years. His wife, Janice, survives in Kalida.
Other survivors include three children: Gary (Mary Jo) VonderEmbse, Lois (Melvin) Horstman and Diane (Nick) Langhals, all of Kalida; 7 grandchildren: Holly (Eric) Schnipke, Brad VonderEmbse, Amy (Nick) Zychowicz, Cody (Ericka) Horstman, Luke (Kylie) Langhals, Lauren Langhals and Logan Langhals; 3 great-grandchilldren and one on the way; and three sisters: Linda (Gene) Heitmeyer of Lima, Sharon (Ron) Heitmeyer of Kalida and Karen Bellman of Ottawa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; and two brothers-in-law: Gene Bellman and John Stoepfel.
Ronald retired at age 55 from Scot Lad Foods in Lima. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and the Holy Name Society, Kalida Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, Kalida Town Council, Kalida Knights of Columbus, Ottawa Eagles, Ottawa Sons of the American Legion, Indian Lake Moose and Lima Elks. He was one of the founding members of Country Acres Golf Club. Ronald loved to golf and was able to make 3 hole-in-ones in his golfing career. He was a lifetime fan of the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Ronald loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports and enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with his wife.
A funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will from 2 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
