WAYNESFIELD -- Steven R. Waitman, age 74 of Waynesfield, passed at 12:15 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home. He was born July 27, 1950 in Lima, Ohio to the late Richard 'Bud' and Pearl Sheldon Waitman.
Mr. Waitman retired as President of the Local 908 Teamsters Union. He was a member of Waynesfield Baptist Church and the Wayne Masonic Lodge #569. A proud Teamster, he remained active in the union throughout his life. A skilled woodworker, he belonged to the Woodworking Club of Bellefontaine. He was also an avid fisherman, a gun enthusiast, and in his earlier years, enjoyed racing Enduros and dirt bikes, as well as scuba diving.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Waitman; they shared 30 years together; a son – Matthew Waitman of Waynesfield; a daughter – Jennifer Flinn; 3 grandchildren – Alex, Gabe, and Cody; a brother – Mark (Jolene) Waitman of Waynesfield; and 2 nephews – Kyle Waitman and Brock Waitman.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. Mark Lovely will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Branch Cemetery, near Waynesfield.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Steve was great union support to me while I worked at UPS. He was always respectful and kind. His family should know that he stood up for the workers and always took the time to listen to my concerns. I am sorry he passed on so soon. Our greatest sympathies to his wife, children, and grandchildren.
