Thomas Basinger Obituary
THOMAS BASINGER
LIMA — Thomas R. Basinger, age 56, passed away peacefully Saturday at Kobacker House after a long battle with ALS.
Born in Lima, Ohio, April 6, 1958 to Malcolm and Sue Basinger.
Graduate of Lima Senior High School where he was a National Merit Scholar and a 4-year letterman on the Swim Team. Attended the University of Florida and The Ohio State University. Retired from Jones Fuel and former employee of CompuServe, Inc. Tom was a true gentleman and a kind soul who enjoyed life and was happiest with family and friends. Tom fought his disease with grace, dignity and courage and never let it change the person he was. He was referred to as "the best man I know" by those who knew and loved him. Survived by wife Lori (Alder) Powers-Basinger; daughter Alicia Alder Powers; mother Sue L. Basinger; brother Mark A. Basinger; sisters Martha R. Basinger and Elizabeth R. (Brian) Stevens; nephew Thomas M. Stevens; niece Christine E. Stevens; father and mother-in-law Jim (Buzz) and Betty Alder; brother and sister-in-law Mike Alder and Lisa (Tim) Alder-Patton; nephew and niece Brett and Jillian Patton; life-long best friend Jim McMullen and his daughters Lauren, Amanda and Martha; best four-legged friend Riley and a multitude of loving friends.
Preceded in death by his father Malcolm D. Basinger.
Family will receive friends Wednesday 3-7 P.M. at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 4661 KENNY RD.

Although I never met Tom, his sister Martha always painted a beautiful image of him with her words of passion and love whenever I asked about him. And to see that Tom spent his last days at the Kobacker House gives me great peace knowing that he and his family were well taken care. I too said farewell to a loved one there and look back at that time with sorrow and thanks.

We are so sorry for your loss. We all need to keep others aware of what a horrible disease ALS is. Our family just spent a few days at Kobacker House two weeks ago being with my brother at the end of his battle so we really understand and empathize with your entire family on the emotional struggles you have endured.
