LIMA -- Virginia M. Rutter, 96, passed away on June 11, 2022, at The Greens of Lima.
Virginia was born on December 9, 1925 in Mount Victory, Ohio, to Harry and Pauline (Haynes) Appelfeller. On January 14, 1946 she married Harry R. Rutter, who preceded her in death on March 26, 2000.
Virginia graduated from Blume High School, in Wapakoneta, Ohio in 1942. She worked as a secretary at several offices. She was a member of Shawnee Community United Methodist Church where she volunteered in the church office as receptionist for many years. She volunteered at Lima Memorial Hospital for 5 years and at the Senior Citizens Center. She belonged to the Elks in Fostoria. Virginia also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and reading.
She is survived by her children: James R. Rutter, Scott A. Rutter, and Pamela Ann (Raymond) Barnes; son-in-law, Dr. David Kirlin; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Kirlin; and a sister, Ida Grace Ward.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. Rev. Dr. Lori Reibes will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lima Rescue Mission or Our Daily Bread.
