COLUMBUS -- Nemes, II, William (Bill) C. After his second hard fought battle with cancer, William (Bill) C. Nemes, II passed away March 6, 2022 at home with his loving wife, step-son and friends caring for him. Bill beat cancer when he was 9 years old and this battle, which started the same time the world shutdown with COVID-19, never got the best of him. Committed to research, he wanted the doctors to learn something so the next patient up might have better odds.
Bill was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to William and Jean Nemes on December 30, 1967. His father's job moved him and the family to Lima, Ohio in first grade, so Lima was home. Bill graduated from Lima Central Catholic High School and Ohio State University's Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster, Ohio with an Associate Degree in Landscape Maintenance. Even though Bill was an excellent chef, he would rather spend all his time outside. He worked for several landscape companies throughout his career moving from Cleveland to Columbus. His passion for nature's beauty was most evident in the way he maintained his home with beautiful landscaping and tree placement. He enjoyed helping and teaching others about landscaping as well.
An avid hiker and explorer, doing what he loved led him to meet the love of his life, Kathy. He was happiest when they took their dog Sedona on hikes around the country in their camper.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, uncle, aunt and brother-in-law. Left with their memories are his wife, Kathy of Ostrander, OH; step-son, Bronson Shoemaker of Beaufort, SC; sister, Marie Nemes-Crawford (David M. Crawford) of Circleville, OH; in-laws; along with so many friends. Bill thought of Jeff, Matt, Ping, and Jorge as his brothers and their families, his. He will be missed beyond words.
While hiking in a group, no matter if in Ohio's Mohican State Park or Peru's Machu Picchu, Bill would be last, making sure even the slowest had someone to walk next to them. May we all emulate such selflessness. At his request, there will be no formal service. Interment will take place at a later date in Forest Cemetery, Circleville, Ohio. Those who wish to mark his passing are welcomed to plant a tree in his memory through the Arbor Day Foundation (shop.arborday.org). They Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center is honored to serve the Nemes family. To leave a condolence or to share a memory, please visit www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
